JOURNALISTS EXTOLLED

The immediate-past President, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA Africa region and first Nigerian to head the globally recognized Union, Dr. Acho Ihim has paid glowing tribute to journalists the world over for enhancing what he called transatlantic relationship, Bi lateral unity and ethnic cohesion amongst nations.

Speaking through his spokesperson, Ilochonwu Bennett, Ihim particularly prided media practitioners in Nigeria as cardinal and critical stakeholders in the sustenance of the nation’s sovereignty and democratic system.

Ihim who is also the immediate-past Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly eulogized Nigerian journalists for courageously combating frontally the dreaded Coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19 through aggressive education and information on the dangers of the globally dreaded pandemic.

He affirmed pointedly that journalists’ timely enlightenment on the dreaded virus constituted serious clogs in the wheel of its spread in Nigeria and averred that the pen-pushing job is very tasking and risky and decried poor remuneration and working condition of members the profession in the country

Ihim, advocated for improved welfare, insurance facility and provision of morale boosting incentives for journalists in the country, particularly, just as he tasked the union leaders on curbing activities of quacks to forestall further denigration of the good image of the noble profession, the fourth estate of the realm. 

The Okigwe LGA-born political leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, assured them of his support at all times charging them to keep safe as they discharge their onerous duties for the overall good of Nigerians.
