SCIENCE AND TECH EXPOS HOLDS IN ABUJA
Development of any society hinges largely on its ability to produce hence the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology deemed it fit to bring together Inventors and Innovators to what it termed Science and Technology Expo 2020 to showcase their talents.
The Expo was a gathering of who is who in the invention Sector.
Inventors and Innovators from all over the country came to exhibit their ingenuity in locally made crafts like tractors, farm implements amongst others.
The event was also an avenue to recognize winners of the seven hundred and seventy four Young Nigerian Presidential Award.
In his speech, President Muhammadu Buhari ṣaid the Federal Government will continue to release funds to promote research and human development adding that winners of the Presidential award will be given full scholarship to any Nigerian University of their choice to PhD level.
The Minister for Science and Technology Chief Ogbonnaya Ọnụ on his part, described Science and Technology as the center of all economic activities in any nation.
He regretted that the COVID-19 global pandemic has caused major countries to shut down urging Nigerians to see it as a wakeup call to intensify efforts in producing locally many of those things imported from outside the country.
Speaking in an interview, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Senator Uche Ekwunife called for diversification of the economy and stated that the Committee would partner the Ministry to push made in Nigeria products to the world.
An elated Nelson Uwakwe who emerged second in the seven hundred and seventy four Young Nigerians Presidential Award, while thanking his school, family and friends for their support, saw it as a privilege and God’s favour to have emerged one of the winners of the Young Nigerians Presidential Award.
