NEW NIGERIAN PASSPORT HAS NO ETHNIC IDEOLOGY
Nigerians have been urged not to worry about the security features in the 32-page New International Passport recently introduced by the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS).The Assistant Controller-general (ACG) of Nigerian Immigration Services, Mrs. Funke Cecilia Adeuyi made this admonition while speaking with Journalists in Owerri, Imo State.
According to her, the new 32 Page International Passport has 10-year validity and is presently being issued through Ikoyi, Lagos and Abuja offices of the NIS. She added that the document is imbedded with ethnic, religious and cultural features of the Nigeria nation and urged Nigerians not to see those features as tilting towards any ethnic ideology.
The ACG who was attending a one day sensitization workshop for people in the South-East on behalf of the Comptroller General, told Journalists that NIS Comptroller General is so passionate with information dissemination and has decided to involve the grassroots, as security issues need collaboration of the local actors with other stakeholders to achieve set goals and targets.
Mrs Adeuyi, asserted that the present approach of the NIS Comptroller General is an action towards a perfect synergy in border management strategies.She solicited the co-operations and understanding from all for effective service delivery.
In his own contribution, Imo State Controller of Immigration Services,Mr. David Mutil Ringshiu, stated that the state was chosen for the programme as way of reaching-out to relevant stakeholders in Imo, Abia and other neighbouring states to the people abreast of the new Boarder Management Strategy within the next 4 years (2019 –2023).
On the issue of the country’s boarders being porous, the Imo State Controller alluded that the ECOWAS Treaty may be responsible; he however noted that NIS with other security agencies cannot allow the nation’s interest to be compromised. The Imo NIS helmsman posited that any influx of aliens might be through ECOWAS Protocols and challenged newsmen to get closer to understand the diligence and effectiveness of the present leadership of the new Comptroller General whom he said is passionately committed to effective service delivery.
Mr. Ifeanyi Eddy Oguejiofor, in- charge of Visa and Residency at NIS Imo Command, who is an Assistant Controller of Immigration Services commended the Comptroller General and his administrative strategies on boarder management to ward off migrants, and emigrants.
Earlier, the Royal Father of the day, the traditional Ruler of Okponakuma Njaba Local Government Area, Imo state, HRH Eze Vincent Chukwunenye Duru, Mfr; a retired Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration Services lauded the organizers and the Comptroller General for their
Pro-activeness and making Migration Management Strategies open to stakeholders and the public.
He said migration cannot be stopped as President Donald Trump of America tried it with the Mexican Walls where people climbed it. According to him, what is needed is to”Regularize the irregular.”The royal father maintained that the new management strategies devised must be pursued with vigour and vision towards set goals and targets.
