Honourable Dr. Kemdi Chino Opara, a US based philanthropist and Publisher of the GIST-AGRICA newspaper a monthly general interest print organ, published in Nigeria; recently bagged the Golden Star Award for Empowerment and Community Development in Nigeria; at the 16th Africa Security Watch Awards ceremony held at Radison Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek, Dubai, United Emirates.

Honourable Opara was among the 68 individuals, organizations and institutions from the academia, clergy, media, military, police and security agencies from different parts of the continent; honoured at this year’s programme organized by Security Watch Africa Initiatives, a nongovernmental organization (NGO) with special focus global security with bias for the African continent.

Hon. Dr Opara, was honoured for his invaluable exploits in youth Empowerment in his locality Obazu Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State and environs. Honoured alongside this ebullient, silent achiever were Chief Willie Obiano, the Executive Governor of Anambra State and Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, the Executive Governor of Abia State.  Governor Obiano was honoured with award as Security Icon in Governance in West and Central Africa while Governor Ikpeazu was honoured as Best Security and Safety Conscious State Governor /Premier in West and Central Africa.

Hon. Dr. Kemdi Opara, born January 21, 1960, attended Government Secondary School, Owerri, Imo-Sate; the College of New Jersey, Trenton, New Jersey, USA .and Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. His academic laurels include: a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering; degrees in Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing Research and a Doctorate in Education and Social Policy.

A trained Educational Leader and Social Policy Specialist with over 25 years’ work experience spanning through public and private sectors both in Nigeria and overseas; the GISTAGRICA newspaper publisher, has accomplished numerous achievements in humanitarian services including safeguarding and protecting the people of his community through the provision of street lights, pipe borne water and empowerment of youths, widows and the aged.

Dr. Kemdi has applied effectively his educational background, knowledge and experience in public policy and general administration to ensure that the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency is well represented in all legislative and policy matters as his venture into politics spurred political gladiators into making promises which Dr. Kemdi always prompt them to fulfill.

As a result of his training as educational leader and social policy specialist, Dr. Opara has worked in both public and private sectors in overseas and Nigeria, therefore and is exposed to the nuts of administrative/political background. His ability and competence in this perspective he dsiplayed as a former New York State Executive level policy maker in such capacities as: Health Care Management Consultant; -CEO/Co-Partner of 1 Heart Home Health Care, (LLC); Director of Capital Planning; Director of Administrative Services and Ancillary Services; Director of Safety Management; Director of Materials Management and  Assistant Business Officer; Administrative Intern.

The GISTAGRICA Publisher was a three-time Federal House of Representatives candidate though denied of the opportunity due to the Nigeria factor in politics. His corporate achievement background has propelled his excellence as: CEO /Co-Partner of 1 Heart Home Health Care, LLC.; Director of Circulation, The Times Newspaper, Trenton, New Jersey; Lecturer School of Business, The College of New Jersey; Chief Executive Officer of Oak Group of Investors, Trenton, New Jersey; Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Elegant Transport Services Youngest member of “LUBAN” incorporated in Nigeria; and  a successful Real Estate Developer in the USA. Honourable Kemdi is a Philanthropist of no mean dimension and Founder “MARA” – Medical Aid for Rural Africa, Inc; with active presence in 48 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and has distributed medication/Medical equipment totaling over 48 million US dollars.
His Professional Affiliations include: Kappa Delta (International Honour Society in Education); American Management Association; Institute of Industrial Engineers, USA; National Fire Protection Association, USA; Certified Code Enforcement Officer, New York, USA; Board Member, World Igbo Congress, USA; Member, People’s Club of Nigeria, South Jersey, USA; and Member, Igwebuike Social Club of New Jersey. An astute writer, the US based Nigerian philanthropist is the author of the book: The National Assembly Federal Republic of Nigeria “What You Should Know and Why?”; among others. and many others.

Dr. Opara’s philanthropic reach-out to the needy programmes include: Medical Aid – Community based medical outreach initiatives/programs; Youth Empowerment Counseling/guiding youths on been proactive with individual business goals and interests including providing many with free start-up funds’ Advocate for no Child left behind Initiatives – aiding in actual funding of many young adults education including paying WAEC fees and school fees of many and buying books,  and uniforms for students of the poor His other reach-out programmes to the poor are:  Addressing community security issues both structurally and economically; Community based investment initiatives; Women Empowerment – helping market women to improve their various trades by making free funds as per need basis; and  Aiding women community organizations in improving their uniforms an skills among others.

Recently, he ventured into the newspaper industry with the intention of educating the African populace on the evolving trends in agriculture so as to ensure food sufficiency in the region. This he did through the establishment of a general interest newspaper, Gist Agrica newspaper with special focus on the promotion of agriculture in Africa.

Dr. Kemdi Opara may be termed the silent operator and achiever of note as he has contributed immensely to shaping the development of Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency as he led the peace accord that restored the estranged relationship in the rotation policy for fairness and equity between the two local governments. Receiving the award through his Assistant on Media, Mrs. Ekwutosi Ajide, Hon. Dr. Opara, promised to sustain his fight for a better African continent through the provision of adequate information and empowerment for the teeming youths. He said that the award will only spur him to greater exploits in human development not just in his community Obazu but in Nigeria and West Africa. The golden star award winner, called on wealthy individuals especially of the Igbo extraction to always use their wealth for the good of others so that the world will be a better place for all.
