CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYER MARKS 88TH BIRTHDAY

A renowned constitutional lawyer, Prof Ben Nwabueze has called on governments at all levels, to assist return Nigeria to its past glory.
The octogenarian who was responding to eulogies from different quarters at his eighty eight birthday celebration in Abuja said government should grant the request as his birthday present.
Professor Ben Nwabueze, who is known to mean many things to different people; as some see him as a great achiever, an icon, a patriotic, erudite professor of law, others think he is a relentless fighter for the rule of law and constitutionality, or a defender of human rights and a drummer for justice among many other assumptions said he is looking forward to the Nigeria of the old glories when regions managed their resources and he could travel from the East through West to the North without a feel of bad road.
The constitutional lawyer queried the rights of the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau to order the warrant of arrest for the Chief Justice of the federation, saying he over stepped his bounds.
Speaker after speaker on the occasion, including the Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, who was the chairman on the occasion, a former governor of Akwaibom State, Obong Victor Attah, Senators Ike Ekweremadu and Uche Ekwunife, the member representing Idemili North and South in the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Ifeanyi chukwu Ibezi, and his Awka North and South counterpart, Honourable Sam Onwuaso, Actor Kenneth Okonkwo among others while praying for him, urged younger Nigerians to emulate the icon and learn to work hard for the good of the country.
Governor Willie Obiano represented by the Anambra State Liaison Officer in Abuja, Mrs. Agatha Manafa, said Professor Nwabueze has always been a man of the people who has been generous with his treasures, talent and time as he reaches out to humanity irrespective of class, status, gender, religion or tribe.
According to the governor, Prof Nwabueze’s service to the nation has left indelible track records of uncommon courage, sacrifice, patriotism and integrity which should be emulated by all.
Earlier, in a denominational service, Daddy Hezekiahof Living Christ Mission, represented by a University don, Dr. EzeIbekwe of University of Port Harcourt said longevity is earned by a righteous living and urged people to always emulate the good to live longer.
Lecturers from the University of Nigeria Nsukka said they are constructing a complex to be named after the octogenarian while another group said it is building a cottage hospital also in his name.
Also present at the eighty eight birthday, include, the National President of Ohanezendiigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo who led in the prayers, the traditional ruler of Atani, Igwe Austin Ngoddy, former Minister of works, Mr. Mike Ozohkeme, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Edwin Clerk, Godwin Asange of the middle belt forum among others.
