US EMBASSY IN ABUJA TAKES SOCCER TO IDP CAMP

Teevo FC has emerged overall winners of the United States of America sponsored soccer buddy football tournament at the Kuchin Goro, Abuja, Internally Displaced Persons, Camp.
Unique Stars FC took the second position while Champions FC clinched the third position in the keenly contested three months soccer academy which also consisted of theories as well as practical aspects of football.
Speaking as the embassy honoured the winners, Charge De Affairs of the Embassy, Kathleen Fitzgibbon, noted that football brings people together as they seem to forget their worries, grievances and differences while on the pitch
According to her football promotes unity hence the embassy chose the camp with the hope that some players in the teams would grow up to play in Super Eagles and Falcons in the near future.
She said that the project can be expanded if people see the benefits and contribute to it.
According to the Cultural Affairs Officer, Sterling Tilley, the idea of football is to bring forth a team that actually works together to achieve leadership and team spirit that will combine to help them grow into more efficient people to lead the country into a better place.
The Senior Coach Alhaji Adamu Usman, said that the soccer buddy which is the second in the series started with just six players and one team but today it has over eighty players and six teams out of which the winners emerged.
He expressed joy that five out of the players will be getting scholarship for further studies from the organizers.
The Captain of the winning team Danladi Obadiah said within the period of the soccer academy he has learnt new skills, scored more goals and he is happy about the program especially as they emerged winners.
