The Commissioner for Commerce and Entrepreneur, John Bosco Ekezie Okeahialam recently interacted with leaders of Imo State Amalgamated Market Trader Association (ISAMATA) to find out their challenges and way forward.
The leaders listed some of their challenges confronting their members to include: erosion, bad roads, electricity, leadership tussle, non-compliance of traders to trade inside the market and political interference by government using taskforce to intimidate the traders. The commissioner assured them of government support, charging them to cooperate with the government and be united.
Speaking with newsmen after the interactive session with the traders, Okeahialam said that the meeting was to know the problems and challenges facing the traders, proffer solution and partner with them in line
with rebuild Imo mantra of the present administration. He disclosed that the government of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha will create enable environment for traders to operate.
The Commissioner submitted that traders are the economic base of the state, adding that the traders have lost their shops, some demolished by the last administration, pointing out that their complains and problems will be presented to the governor, stating that Rt. Hon. Ihedioha has a listening ear and will come to their aid. The traders promised to work with the ministry to move the economy of the state forward.
